Stonington — Police have identified the motorcyclist who was seriously injured Monday night in a crash at the intersection of routes 184 and 201 in Old Mystic as Kevin Schmitt, 35, of Hyde Pond Court, Mystic.

He was flown by Life Star helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital after the 8:14 p.m. crash.

According to police, an initial investigation shows both Schmitt and a car were heading east on Route 184 when Schmitt attempted to pass the car and struck it. The Old Mystic Fire Department and Mystic River Ambulance responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
