Norwich – A Chihuahua named Biz is the city’s No. 1 dog for 2014.
Biz, a 1-year-old neutered male owned by Nicole Depolito, won the city clerk’s office annual drawing for the No. 1 dog license tag for the 2014-15 fiscal year. In addition to receiving the tag for free, courtesy of Mayor Deberey Hinchey Biz won a canvas tote of donated dog treats, grooming supplies, a dog bowl and other items.
City Clerk Betsy Barrett said the annual contest is an effort to make dog owners aware that June is dog license renewal month. The office received 108 applications, the most ever. This year, the office also saved money by sending more than 900 email reminders to dog owners rather than the traditional mailed post cards.
A 5-year-old French Brittany named Jake, owned by Rolland Allard, will wear the No. 2 tag, and Charlie, a 5-year-old boxer mix owned by Paul Anderson, won the No. 3 tag.
