Hospital unions back Ritter for state Senate

Unions representing caregivers at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich have endorsed state Rep. Elizabeth Ritter, D-Waterford, for the state Senate 20th-District seat.

Ritter will face New London Democratic Town Committee Chairman Bill Satti in an Aug. 12 primary.

Members of AFT Connecticut's legislative and political action committee in June recommended endorsement of Ritter to the federation's executive committee after reviewing her record and voting history, the union said in a news release Thursday. Leaders of the federation's local unions at both hospitals earlier this month took action to endorse after interviewing candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in the upcoming primary.

Do you agree with Tony La Russa that baseball players associated with steroid use and bypassed, regardless of their achievements, are deserving of Hall of Fame induction - with an asterisk?
Yes. I believe Bonds, Clemens and McGwire deserve their place in the Hall of Fame.
No. I think it sends a rule-breaking message to current players and Little Leaguers.

According to La Russa, the asterisk would indicate: 'Look, we have some questions.' What?
