New Britain (AP) — The head New Britain's Common Council has stepped down after what police say was a drunken confrontation with the mayor in her office.

Michael Trueworthy, the mayor pro tem, says he will remain a city alderman, but will resign his leadership position to deal with an alcohol problem.

Police say they were called to Mayor Erin Stewart's office last Tuesday after after a drunken Truworthy showed up, called her vulgar names and demanded her resignation.

Stewart told police that the 36-year-old Trueworthy also demanded she get him a drink.

Friends were called to bring Trueworthy home.

Trueworthy, who is serving his sixth term as a Democratic alderman, confirmed the accuracy of the police report Monday and asked for forgiveness. The mayor says she does not plan to press charges.

Yes. I believe Bonds, Clemens and McGwire deserve their place in the Hall of Fame.
No. I think it sends a rule-breaking message to current players and Little Leaguers.
Asterisk or no asterisk, I wonder why he waited until he was in the Hall of Fame to make this statement?
According to La Russa, the asterisk would indicate: 'Look, we have some questions.' What?
