Norwich Board of Education member resigns

Norwich — Republican Board of Education member Lynn Norris has resigned from the board, effective immediately, citing “personal endeavors.”

Board Chairwoman Yvette Jacaruso read Norris’ resignation letter, dated Aug. 17, at the start of Tuesday’s special board meeting.

“Although every moment I served on the board was an absolute pleasure, personal endeavors will keep me from fulfilling my member duties,” Norris wrote. “I will miss all my fellow board members, Norwich Public School staff and our fearless Superintendent, Abby Dolliver. May Norwich continue to make great strides and exemplify the true meaning of ‘student achievement.’”

The Republican Town Committee will nominate someone to fill the remaining 15 months of Norris’ term as a recommendation to the Norwich City Council. RTC Chairman Peter Nystrom said Wednesday he has talked to Norris and was aware of the resignation. The RTC meets tonight, but Nystrom said that would be too soon to have a recommendation.

Any registered Republican interested in the seat should contact the committee, which will discuss the nomination at its September meeting, Nystrom said.
