Teacher union support for Malloy is misplaced

The Connecticut Education Association should get out of bed with Gov. Malloy and start standing up for the people who give a hefty percent of their salary to that union. In rational times, it would behoove the union to take care of its workers, the teachers. Common sense should dictate that support should not go to someone who maligns the dignity of teachers by saying that "all you have to do is show up to get tenure," as Malloy did.

Common Core, not designed by teachers or educators, was foisted on the teachers by technocrats who will benefit financially from all the data collection and testing inherent in the program. Common Core suddenly became the way in Connecticut's education when Malloy's commissioner threatened to withhold funding to the schools unless they "went along." Superintendents had little choice.

Ask any teacher or principal if he or she thinks Common Core is making momentous, positive headway. Most are so tired or weary of the additional paperwork that they lack the energy to criticize or are too intimidated to challenge it. It's time for a "novel" change. Get rid of the bureaucrats, technocrats and Democrats. Vote for the other guys. It can't get much worse.
