    Local roundup: Bergel makes it a perfect day for Wheeler baseball

    North Stonington — Sean Bergel pitched a five-inning perfect game Friday and the Wheeler High School baseball team blanked Windham 11-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV game.

    Bergel struck out two, adding two hits and two RBI.

    Bradin Anderson had three hits, including two doubles, and Kyle Kessler and Korbin Anderson each had three RBI for the Lions (7-4, 2-2).

    In other games:

    • Lyman Memorial blanked Bacon Academy 1-0. Dom Pontbriant pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts for the Bulldogs (9-3) and Jared Russo had an RBI single in the fourth.

    • Grasso Tech rallied for a 5-4 win over Goodwin Tech. Jerry Santiago’s three-run double in the seventh led the Eagles (7-6).

    • Montville moved to 11-3 with a 7-3 win over Ledyard. Cole Terni had three RBI and Cole Chiasson and Jack Treat had two hits apiece.

    On Thursday, Treat was 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and pitched two scoreless innings of relief in Montville’s 10-2 win over Killingly. Terni allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits over five innings, striking out 10 and walking two. Aidan Johnson and Chiasson had two hits each for Montville.

    • Old Lyme edged Old Saybrook 3-1. Grady Lacourciere struck out 10 batters and allowed one run on four hits over 6.1 innings. Aidan Carpentino earned the save for Old Lyme (6-7), which got two hits each from Jack Porter and Lacourciere.

    H.S. softball

    • Maddy Lebrecque pitched a four-hit shutout and Griswold defeated New London 9-0. Naely Diaz led Griswold's offense with three hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Kierra Neilson (solo home run, two runs scored) and Summer McLean had two hits each for the Wolverines (11-3). New London (2-7) was lead by Nichelle Tucker and Alina Skrabacz with two hits each.

    • Bacon Academy defeated Plainfield 5-2. Jazlyn Small-Yu went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored for the Bobcats (7-4). Reina Hill also had two hits and an RBI.

    • Aubrey Nygaard had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored as St. Bernard edged Woodstock 5-4. Mattie Scribner had two hits and Katie Scribner homered for the Saints (6-6).

    • Hand scored four unearned runs in the second inning and pulled away to defeat East Lyme 8-1. Ava Korineck doubled and scored on an RBI single by Grace DuBrava for East Lyme’s only run. The Vikings are 9-5.

    • Lexi Lemmon struck out 15 and Ledyard defeated Montville, 4-1. Maegan Miller hit a triple and Lemmon also had an RBI for Ledyard (9-3). Taryn Feragne had a triple and an RBI for Montville (8-6) and Kayla Terni doubled.

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Waterford defeated Montville 15-5 in ECC Division II. Karissa Hochdorfer had four goals for the Wolves (4-5, 1-4). Waterford is 9-1, 6-0.

    • Williams defeated Christian Heritage 16-7. Skylar Frost (four goals, four assists) led the Blues (9-4) and Ally Iacobellis and Brook McLoughlin also scored four goals apiece.

    • Sienna Caron had six goals and five assists and Kaylin Stockwell six goals and two assists to pace Griswold/Norwich Tech past New London/St. Bernard in an ECC Division III game Thursday. Amelia Hawkins and Neiara Hawkins each had two goals for Griswold/Norwich Tech (4-7, 1-4) and Alexis Emanuele made nine saves. Keshvi Patel scored four goals for New London/St. Bernard (0-12, 0-5).

    • Sophia Gouveia finished with seven goals in Wheeler’s 12-10 victory over Killingly in an ECC Division III matchup Thursday. Grace Cassata and Naomi Boord added two goals each for the Lions (6-3, 5-0).

    H.S. boys’ lacrosse

    • Tate Gordon finished with six goals and three assists in Fitch’s 15-4 win over Waterford in an ECC Division I matchup Thursday. Roman Rich added four goals and four assists, Boden Frost three goals and six assists, Eli Walters two goals and three assists and Chase Beyus 22 saves for the Falcons (10-2, 4-1). Johan Deon scored twice and Avery Bonewicz had two assists for Waterford (3-8, 2-4).

    H.S. boys’ golf

    • Woodstock Academy earned victories over Bacon Academy (5.5-1.5) and Stonington (6-1) at Stonington Country Club. Alex Gallardo and John Ceruti each shot 37 for Bacon, which defeated Stonington 5-2 in ECC Division II and Ethan Torres led Stonington with a 39. Woodstock’s Don Sousa fired an even-par 36 to earn medalist honors for Woodstock.

    H.S. girls’ golf

    • Adilyn Risley shot a 46 to earn medalist honors as Stonington defeated Woodstock Academy 216-224 in an ECC match at Elmridge Golf Course. Rory Risley carded a 54 for the Bears (2-4, 2-4).

    College baseball

    • Junior Chris Gibbs tossed eight innings and top-seed Mitchell College defeated No. 8 St. Joseph’s College 15-6 in the opening game of Pod A play in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball tournament. The Mariners (28-10) advanced into the winners’ bracket Saturday, facing No. 4 Colby-Sawyer College at noon.
