    High school football roundup: Speller runs Waterford past Griswold

    Griswold - Griswold returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but Waterford took over after that and came away with a 34-14 win in a high school football game Thursday night.

    Chase Speller ran for 185 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries for Waterford (2-6), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Speller scored on runs of 35, 63, 2 and 10 yards.

    Mike Rocchetti returned a fumble 42 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter that gave Waterford the lead at 13-7. Quarterback Spencer Hoagland passed for 54 yards and kicked four extra points and Noah Concascia and Luke Barrs intercepted passes for the Lancers.

    Griswold's Jordan Baker returned the opening kick 79 yards for a score and Cole Mileski threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jay Von Dyer for the Wolverines (3-4).

    In other games:

    • Plainfield jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and went on to beat Fitch 48-15. Jordan Federer ran for two touchdowns and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Steven Jankowski, who threw a second touchdown pass and ran for a 51-yard score for the Panthers (6-1).

    Robert Duncan threw a pair of 8-yard touchdown passes to Luke Letellier for Fitch (0-8), Colton St. Louis kicked an extra point and Duncan threw a two-point conversion pass to Adrian Albo.

    Jankowski rushed for 103 yards on six carries and was 7-for-10 passing for 77 yards, Federer rushed for 111 yards on 12 carries and Kade Amster ran the ball 19 times for 139 yards and two touchdowns for Plainfield, which rushed for 382 yards on 43 carries.
