Police: East Lyme man tries heroin for first time, crashes car into building

Middletown — An East Lyme man appeared Tuesday in Middletown Superior Court after police said he crashed into a building in Middletown while under the influence of heroin.

Mark Denesha, 37, of 15 Mill Road was charged with reckless driving and issued an infraction for possession of marijuana.

Police said on Dec. 5 at about 3:15 p.m. they responded to the area of Washington Street and Old Mill Road in Middletown for a report of a car into a building.

Police found Denesha inside the vehicle, unresponsive. Police at the scene made attempts to bring him back to consciousness, the police report said. Shortly after, emergency medical personnel arrived and were able to revive him using Narcan, which is used to treat opioid overdoses.

Denesha was taken to Middlesex Hospital for treatment. He told police that he didn’t know how the accident happened. He told police that he snorted heroin for the first time that day, and wasn’t sure if that is what caused the accident.

Minutes prior to the crash police received numerous 911 calls reporting Denesha’s reckless driving.

Denesha’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 13.
