    Car snaps pole in Ledyard, lands in vertical position

    The scene of a one-car accident along Route 117 in Ledyard, north of Sandy Hollow Road, in which the car struck a utility pole and ended up vertically facing downward, Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Ledyard — A woman was injured late this afternoon when the car she was driving struck and snapped a utility pole on Center Groton Road and landed in a vertical position on its front end.

    She had to be extricated from her car and was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital after the 4:25 p.m. crash just north of the intersection of Sandy Hollow Road. Emergency personnel on the scene described her injuries as non life threatening.
