New London man charged with home invasion, sexual assault
New London — A 32-year-old city man was charged with home invasion and sexual assault Saturday night after police said he assaulted a 60-year-old woman as she returned to her home.
Luis Rosario, of 227 Jefferson Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with home invasion, third-degree sexual assault, criminal attempt to commit first-degree sexual assault and unlawful restraint.
Police say the woman had arrived home about 9:05 p.m. when she was attacked from behind. The man forced the woman into her home and sexually assaulted her. The woman was able to escape and went to a nearby business where she called for help.
Police said responding officers spotted a man matching the description given by the woman and took Rosario into custody. They said the woman then identified the man as her assailant.
Rosario is being held today on a $250,000 bond and is slated to appear in New London Superior Court on Monday.
