    Local colleges: UConn baseball splits with Seton Hall

    South Orange, N.J. - UConn split a baseball doubleheader with former Big East rival Seton Hall on Sunday to win their weekend series.

    The Huskies (13-8), who defeated the Pirates 1-0 on Saturday, lost the opener 3-0 on Sunday before bouncing back from a 6-3 victory to win the series 2-1 and concluding an eight-game spring break road trip with a 6-2 record.

    UConn exploded for 14 hits in the second game as Vinny Siena and Max McDowell combined to go 7-for-7.

    Seton Hall freshman Shane McCarthy blanked the Huskies in the opener with a complete game effort to spoil a solid effort by UConn starter Anthony Kay, who allowed two earned runs over 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts.

    Willy Yahn had four hits, including a pair of doubles, for UConn in the two games.

    Women's sailing

    • Connecticut College placed 11th in an 18-team field at the St. Mary's Intersectional Regatta in Maryland. Rookie skipper Emilia Clementi along with classmates Alexandra Maurillo, Isabelle Pieper and Haley Kachmar scored 101 points to finish seventh in the B division. In the A division, first year skipper Charlotte List was joined by Alexandra Maurillo and Isabelle Pieper to place 17th with 184 points.

    Women's track & field

    • Conn College sophomore Bella Franz finished second in the 3,000-meter race (10:40.07) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday in Middletown.

    The meet was moved indoors due to cold temperatures and morning snow. Mary Goulding also had a bid day for the Camels, placing second in the 100 dash (13.27) and third in the pole vault (9 feet, one-quarter inch) while Franz teamed with Gianna Rocchio, Haley Sykes and Casey Sullivan to place second in the 4x400 relay (4:24.60).

    In addition, Alex Fromme was third in the 3,000 (10:46.94), Marina Stuart was fourth in the triple jump (30-9 3/4) and fifth in the pole vault (8-6 1/4), Amanda Jacobsen was fifth in the 200 (27.66) and Lauren Kennedy was sixth in the shot put (33-8 3/4).

    Men's track and field

    • Conn College's 4x400 relay team of Aidan Cort, Nick Fischetti, Brento Lo and Raymond Rich-Fiondella placed third in the 4x400-meter relay (3:40.69) during Saturday's Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, a meet that was moved indoors due to cold temperatures and snow. Also for the Camels, Billy Barnes placed fourth in the 3,000 (9:29.39) and Fischetti was sixth in the pole vault (10 feet, 8 inches).
