    Local roundup: Mitchell advances to NECC lacrosse final

    New London — A.J. Fialkowski scored three goals as top-seed Mitchell College advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference men's lacrosse title game with a 10-5 win over No. 4 Daniel Webster on Wednesday.

    Tyler Kradas added two goals for the Mariners (7-8), who host Becker in the final at 5 p.m. Sunday. JD LeMay made 10 saves for Mitchell. 

    H.S. softball

    • Cameron Dreher went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run as Stonington beat Chariho (R.I.) 6-0. Mallory Kane had two hits and two runs for Stonington (8-2) and Jess Connor went 3-for-3 and scored.

    • Vanessa Gumbs had five runs and seven stolen bases as Norwich Tech trounced Holy Family 21-5 in a Constitution State Conference East Division game. Madison Boadley, Erin McBride and Daria Stifle each had two hits for Norwich Tech. Sarah Majewski had two hits for Holy Family.

    • Putnam led 15-1 after two innings and went on to beat Grasso Tech 21-4 in a CSC game. Sophia Green singled, doubled and tripled and Ashley Cambasaca doubled and drove in a run for Grasso Tech (3-4, 3-3).

    • Cromwell beat Old Lyme in a Shoreline Conference game 12-6. Liz Richard was 4-for-4 and scored twice and Audrey Gavin had two hits and scored twice for Old Lyme.  

    College baseball

    • Mitchell scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning and went on to beat Coast Guard 6-3. Ken Olszewski had a two-run single and Ryan Goodwin and Drew Doyle had run-scoring singles for Mitchell (26-3). Former New London High School standout Eddie Santiago (3-0) got the win in relief. Tim Duncan's RBI single in the first gave Coast Guard, which ended its season at 16-16, the early lead.  

    • Holy Cross scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and went on to beat UConn 8-7. Willy Yahn homered, Vinny Siena had three hits and Jack Sundberg drove in three runs for UConn (28-18).

    H.S. boys' golf

    • Stonington’s Sam Ognisty shot a 3-over par 38 to lead his team to a 6.5-0.5 win over East Lyme and a 7-0 victory over Wheeler at Old Lyme Country Club. Jack Ognisty shot a 41 and Will Cavaliere a 43 for Stonington (6-0). Ryan Tobin scored 45 for East Lyme (5-2-1), which beat Wheeler (7-0). Wheeler (1-6) was led by Mike Anderson (49).

    • Matt Shea shot a 3-over par 39 at Foster Country Club to give Waterford 7-0 wins over Plainfield and Windham. Brett Collins shot a 41 and Glen Faber a 45 for Waterford (4-3, 2-2).

    • Montville beat Fitch 6-1. Chris Bouchard of Montville and Luke Teixeira of Fitch shared medalist honors at 41. Cory Meigs, Ryan Turney, Bouchard and Brian O'Sullivan won matches for Montville (7-1-1) and Teixeira won his match for Fitch (0-5).

    • Nate Tozzi (46) earned medalist honors as Putnam beat Norwich Tech 202-220 in the CSC East Division. Joe Bacon shot a 48 for Norwich Tech (3-2, 2-2) and Steve LaGram and Josh Ries each shot a 50.

    • Portland’s Nick Piersall shot a low-round 42 as his team scored 179 to beat Valley Regional (182) and Old Lyme (194) at Black Hall. Graham Aird shot a team-best 42 for Old Lyme.

    • Bacon Academy beat New London in an ECC Medium Division match 5.5-1.5. Tim Glavan won his match for New London (2-1, 1-1) and teammate Jack Madden played to a draw.

    • Grasso Tech lost to Ellis Tech in a CSC match 200-237. Hunter Brazee led Grasso with a 50.

    H.S. girls' lacrosse

    • Liz Austin had five goals and Brooke Scahill scored four, leading Ledyard to a 16-12 win over St. Bernard. Madison Tilton had three goals, Ellie Phetteplace scored twice and Megan Larmann had three assists for Ledyard (5-2-1). Flora Klise had four goals, Nancy Kuhn scored three and Shannon Amarello had two goals for St. Bernard (4-4).

    • Britta Widham had four goals for Williams in its 9-8 loss to Watkinson on Tuesday. Maddy Lahm had two goals and an assist and Mia Marciano scored twice for Williams.

    H.S. football

    • St. Bernard and Norwich Tech have added Grasso Tech to their co-op program and will be renamed the Thames Valley Crusaders. The program announced last fall that it was leaving the Eastern Connecticut Conference to join the Constitution State Conference. Its departure leaves the ECC with 14 football teams.
