    H.S. lacrosse: Stonington boys win ECC Small title

    Colchester – Jack Riordan had six goals and Tyler Grills five as the Stonington High School boys' lacrosse team came from behind to beat Bacon Academy 14-12 Thursday afternoon to capture the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division title.

    Stonington came into the game with one loss in the division, while Bacon and Waterford had two each. A Bacon victory would have resulted in a three-way tie for the title.

    Bacon led 7-2 after one quarter. Stonington, though, outscored the Bobcats 3-0 in the second quarter to pull within 7-5 at halftime and the game was tied 10-10 after three quarters.

    Nick DeDominicis had two goals, Matthew Briggs one and Zach Christina made eight saves in goal for the Bears (11-5, 7-1).

    Pat Egan had four goals and four assists for Bacon (11-5, 5-3).

    In other games:

    • Erik Aarsand had three goals and three assists as East Lyme completed a perfect season in the ECC Large Division with a 12-8 win over Norwich Free Academy. Zane Smallidge added three goals for the Vikings (11-4, 8-0) while Evan Opsahl and Kyle MacDonnell each had one goal and two assists. Logan Morin had three goals and three assists for NFA (8-7, 5-3) while Ben Thompson scored three goals and Kyle Ton had two goals and two assists.

    • Henry Hunt had seven goals and two assists in Old Lyme’s 18-4 victory over North Branford in the Shoreline Conference. Ian Humphreys had four goals, Jake Fenton three goals and two assists and Ryan Powers and Ashton Bohan two goals each for Old Lyme (12-3). Jacob Stack made four saves in goal. North Branford is 5-11.

    • Tyler Price and Kyle Marsh each had four goals and two assists in Montville's 12-5 victory over St. Bernard/Wheeler in the ECC Small Division. Pat Caron added three goals, Victor Castro one and goalie Keith Mutch made nine saves for Montville (3-12, 2-6). Nick Kane and Ryan Londregan each had a goal and two assists for St. Bernard (1-15, 0-8).

    Girls

    • Margit Burgess had six goals and two assists and Hannah Johnson had four goals and five assists as Stonington earned its share of the ECC Small Division title with a 17-4 win over Griswold. Isabella Natale scored twice and Charlotte Robinson had a goal and an assist for Stonington (12-4, 9-1).

    • Waterford wrapped up its share of the ECC Small Division title with a 14-3 win over Wheeler. Anna Doherty and Lexi Lewis scored two goals each for Waterford (13-3, 9-1). Zoe Robert scored twice for Wheeler (1-14, 1-9).

    • Gabby Fiengo scored five goals as East Lyme completed its ECC Large Division schedule unbeaten with a 20-5 win over NFA. Vanessa Vurno had three goals, Alex Rose made 11 saves and Belle Kenny, Alexis deLaforcade, Alley Lorah and Sara Shukis each scored twice for East Lyme (12-4, 10-0). Kathleen Kelly scored twice and Christina Konstantinidis made 20 saves for NFA (7-9, 3-7). 

    • Ledyard rolled to a 12-2 halftime lead on the way to a 17-3 victory over Woodstock Academy in the ECC Large Division. Ellie Phetteplace had six goals and one assist and Liz Austin added three goals while Brooke Scahill and Maddie Tilton also scored for the Colonels (9-6-1).
