Metro-North train strikes, kills pedestrian in Fairfield

Fairfield — The Metro-North Railroad says a pedestrian has been struck by one of its trains in Fairfield.

The railroad says the train from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven struck the person just east of the Fairfield Metro Station at around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. Railroad spokeswoman Marjorie Anders says train personnel reported the pedestrian had been killed.

Anders said the Fairfield Fire Department asked for traffic to be stopped on the tracks. She said the railroad is in the process of trying to secure buses that could shuttle passengers between Bridgeport and Southport.
