    Local roundup: No. 3 Bacon, No. 4 Montville play to 1-1 boys' soccer tie

    Colchester — Eric Ross scored the tying goal with 28 minutes, 47 seconds left in regulation as the Montville High School boys’ soccer team tied Bacon Academy 1-1 Tuesday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference interdivision game involving two of the top-ranked teams in the state.

    Quentin Duperry had an assist and Nik Strickland had 10 saves for Montville (6-1-2), ranked fourth in the state coaches’ Class M/S poll.

    Tyler Lewis scored 4:23 into the game and Nick Wall had five saves for the Bobcats (7-1-2), ranked third in the Class M/S poll.

    In other games:

    • Cory Conderino scored the go-ahead goal in the 65th minute as Waterford edged Norwich Free Academy 2-1. Steve Lavoie scored and Austin Schwartz had seven saves for Waterford (7-2-1) the ninth-ranked team in the Class M/S poll. Camden Edmond scored, Santiago Manrique had the assist and Seth Strader had five saves for NFA (5-3).

    • Preston Minor's goal with five minutes remaining gave Norwich Tech a 3-3 tie with Griswold. The tying goal came moments after Griswold had scored twice within a one-minute span to take a 2-1 lead. Minor finished with two goals and an assist for the Warriors (4-4-1) while Josh Ries had a goal and two assists.

    • Matt Kerst had two goals and an assist as Fitch scored the game's first four goals to beat Plainfield 4-2. Jonathan Cobena and Meshama Charles scored for Fitch (3-6-1) and Kwadjo Bedjrah and Teddy Lee each had an assist.

    Girls' soccer

    • Jenna Peduzzi and Kyra Teixeira each had a goal and an assist for Old Lyme in a 4-1 victory over Portland in the Shoreline Conference. Mya Johnson and Caroline Wallace added goals, Silja Forstein had an assist and Tori Sims made three saves for Old Lyme.

    • Kim Lizotte's unassisted goal in the first half lifted Bacon Academy to a 1-0 victory over Montville on Monday night. Lauren Ross made 11 saves in goal for the Indians, who were outshot 13-8.

    H.S. swimming

    • Madeline Johanson, a freshman, won the 200-meter individual medley, the 100 breaststroke and swam a leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay as Ledyard defeated Waterford 96-80 in the ECC. Megan Pipech (200 freestyle) and freshman Olivia Strelevitz (100 butterfly) also won events for Ledyard (4-3, 4-3) and Strelevitz, Pipech and Sydney Dudda joined Johanson on the 200 free relay. Waterford's Meika Gathy broke the school record in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.91 and also won the 400 freestyle and contributed to a pair of relay victories. Tori Zane (50 freestyle), Sophia Podeszwa (diving) and Jayne Darras (100 freestyle) also won individual events for Waterford (3-6, 2-5).

    • East Lyme absorbed its first loss in the season in a 97-84 defeat to Staples. Emma Magna won the 200 freestyle for East Lyme (8-1). She also teamed with Mary Kathryn Taylor, Carlie Biondi and Gretchen Stelter to win the 200 freestyle relay, and Alexis Dumais, Taylor Gray, Biondi and Magna won the 400 freestyle relay.

    • Lauren Roper won the 100 and 200 yard freestyle relays and teamed with Katherine Aristi, Paulomi Sardar and Maggy Walrath to win the 200 freestyle relay as Fitch topped Suffield 95-61. Kailyn Lambert won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke for Fitch (8-1) and Aristi won the 500 freestyle.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Saige LaQuitara had 16 points, eight aces and four kills in Norwich Tech's 25-15, 25-12, 25 victory over Ellis Tech. Madison Bodley added 12 points, one ace, seven kills and five digs for the Warriors (6-2 overall, 5-0 in the Constitution State Conference East).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Miranda Arruda and Erin Craig had two goals each for Stonington in a 6-0 victory over Windham in the ECC. Abby Blanchard and Leslie Spencer added goals and Cameron Dreher had four saves for the Bears (6-0-2, 6-0-2), who led 3-0 at halftime.

    • Cara Bradley had a goal and an assist and East Lyme topped NFA 2-1 in the ECC. East Lyme (6-1-1, 5-1-1) led 1-0 at halftime. Katie Durkee added a goal for the Vikings. Hailey Conley scored for NFA (3-2-2, 3-2-2).

    Men's soccer

    • Goals by Ben Colter and Alexis Garcia-Romero lifted Albertus Magnus to a 2-0 victory over Coast Guard Academy in New Haven. The Bears are 3-9.

    Women's soccer

    • Emma Turton scored in the 96th minute to give WPI a 2-1 overtime victory over Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. The Bears (5-5, 1-3) trailed 1-0 when Turton scored in the first half for WPI (9-2-1, 3-1-1), but Olivia Holt, assisted by Caroline Eastman, tied it just 31 seconds into the second half.

    College volleyball

    • Coast Guard ran its winning streak to five with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-14 victory over Mount Holyoke in the NEWMAC. Senior Ashley Dumont led the Bears (13-5, 3-3) with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage while Michelle McGill added 12 digs, Maggie Hine 33 assists and Susan West nine kills.

    College football

    • Coast Guard's Mark Behne was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after registering a pair of fourth-quarter inteceptions to preserve the Bears' 31-14 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday. The free safety, who was named New England Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week a day earlier, also had a career-high 14 tackles for Coast Guard, which overcame a 14-0 deficit.
