Mohegan — New York Yankees Hall of Famer Dave Winfield and first-year Yankee Starlin Castro will be among the headliners at the Connecticut Sports Foundation's 29th Annual Celebrity Dinner and Memorabilia Auction to be held at Mohegan Sun on Feb. 12.

Winfield, a 2001 Hall of Fame inductee, played 22 seasons for six teams: the Padres, Yankees, Angels, Blue Jays, Twins and Indians. An outfielder, he is a 12-time all-star, a seven-time Gold Glove Award winner and a six-time Silver Slugger Award winner. Winfield was drafted by the NBA and NFL, in addition to Major League Baseball.

Castro, a 25-year-old infielder and .281 career hitter, is a three-time all-star for the Chicago Cubs who was traded to the Yankees in December.

Also appearing at the dinner will be former Yankees closer John Wetteland and former Yankees outfielder and fan favorite Roy White. WFAN radio's Mike Francesa will serve as Master of Ceremonies and Old Lyme native Braiden Sunshine will be a musical guest.

There will be a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and the celebrity program beginning at 9 p.m.

The Connecticut Sports Foundation was founded in 1987 by Connecticut native John Ellis, a former catcher for the New York Yankees and cancer survivor, to financially assist cancer patients and their families and fund cancer research.

The foundation has granted more than $4 million to more than 4,000 Connecticut families dealing with the financial hardship that often follows a cancer diagnosis. In addition,

CSF has donated more than $1.7 million to support ongoing cancer research at

    Memorial Sloan Kettering.
