    Local roundup: Mitchell uses six-run seventh to beat CGA at Dodd

    Norwich — Garet Griffin had three hits and drove in three runs as Mitchell College beat Coast Guard 11-5 in a nonleague baseball game at Dodd Stadium on Tuesday.

    The game was tied 5-5 before Mitchell scored six in the bottom of the seventh inning.

    Jack Finnegan and Kyle Hartenstein had two hits each, Francis Prettitmore scored three times and New London's Eddie Santiago (3-0) picked up the win in relief for the Mariners (24-9), who are the No. 1 seed and will host the New England Collegiate Conference tournament beginning Friday.

    Alex Murdoch and Timbo Duncan had two hits each for Coast Guard (16-20), which plays at Babson on Thursday in the first round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tournament.

    Women's lacrosse

    • No. 5 Mitchell lost to No. 4 Wheelock 18-2 in the first round of the NECC tournament. Francesca Pinard and Willeen Pun had goals for Mitchell, which ends its season at 5-7.

    • Coast Guard ended its season with a 10-9 overtime loss to Merchant Marine. Kaitlin Dickson had three goals and an assist, Cecelia Hosley had a career-high four goals and Daria McKenna scored twice for Coast Guard (2-14). McKenna, the former Fitch standout, finished the year with 18 goals. 

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Noah Reuling scored three goals as Fitch edged St. Bernard/Wheeler 5-4. Luke Letellier added two goals and one assist for the Falcons (2-5) while Jack O'Leary had two goals and one assist for the Saints (3-4) and goalie Alan Schroeder made 17 saves.

    • Dylan Black had five goals and three assists as North Branford handed Old Lyme its first loss, 17-11, in the Shoreline Conference. Ian Humphreys had three goals and two assists to lead the Wildcats (9-1) while Ryan Powers scored three goals, Henry Hunt two goals and two assists, and Gray Colvin two goals. North Branford is 7-1.

    • Mason Mobley and Logan Bowdish each scored twice as Waterford beat NFA 8-5. Jack Ryan had three assists and Taylor Huta made nine saves for Waterford (5-3). Logan Morin had two goals and an assist, Brayden Golas scored twice, Jaedon Brown had two assists and Noah Brown made six saves for NFA (3-4).

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Leah Petrini scored five goals as Waterford defeated Norwich Free Academy 14-7. Marcie Wyatt added three goals and one assist, Megan Sturm had two goals and three assists and Kaylee Swensen and Meghan Foley each scored twice for the Lancers (5-2). Kayley Ericson had three goals for NFA (3-6) while Katie Kelly had two goals and one assist.

    • Mae Sefransky seven goals and one assist as Fitch outlasted St. Bernard 18-14 in Groton. Vineela Kanagala added five goals one assist for the Falcons (4-3-1) while Molly Reinhold scored twice and Casey Startz had one goal and two assists. Flora Klise led the Saints (3-4) with five goals while Kara Bassett had four goals and one assist, Nancy Kuhn and Mia Londregan each scored twice and Bridget Feeley added two assists.

    • Lauren Quaratella had four goals and Anna Mesham and Sydney Cowell scored three times each as Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 14-10 win over North Branford in a Shoreline Conference game. Hannah Guenther made 15 saves, Sloane Sweitzer had two goals and two assists, Abby Berger scored twice, Mesham had three assists and Cowell had two assists for Old Lyme (7-0).

    • Hannah Johnson scored five goals and had two assists as Stonington beat Ledyard 14-4. Margit Burgess had three goals, Isabella Natale and Hannah Lamb had two goals each and Jess Kutz made five saves for Stonington (6-2). Carina Mitchell and Maddie Tilton each scored twice and Blair Muncy made seven saves for Ledyard (1-7).  

    H.S. boys' golf

    • Jack Ognisty (38) earned medalist honors while Peter Holliman (39) had a birdie on the fourth hole to highlight Stonington's 6-1 victory over Montville in an ECC Medium Division match at Elmridge Golf Course. Jack Glenn (41) and Tyler Snelgrove (42) also won matches for the Bears (2-0, 2-0) while Thomas Schroder won the lone match for Montville (1-2, 0-2).

    • Waterford went 2-1 in an ECC Medium Division quad-match, beatng New London 6-1 and Plainfield 7-0 while losing to Killingly 7-0. New London beat Plainfield 5-2 and lost to Killingly 7-0. Killingly's Drew Aitken was the medalist with a 1-under-par 34. Brett Collins (43) and Glen Faber (44) led Waterford (4-2, 3-1) and Jordan Rogers led New London (2-4, 1-3) with a 51.

    • NFA's Jack Sullivan earned medalist honors by edging Bacon Academy's Tyler Lewis at 41-42 in their No. 1 match, highlighting the Wildcats' 7-0 victory in the ECC Large Division. Spencer Molkenthin added a 42 for NFA (3-0, 2-0) while Noah Straub shot a 44.

    H.S. boys' volleyball

    • Hand rallied from an 2-0 deficit to beat NFA 3-2. Ray Wang had 17 kills and seven aces and Alex Jacobik had seven kills for NFA (1-7).

    H.S. baseball

    • Ledyard beat NFA 12-3 in an ECC Large Division game on Monday night. Nick Smith had three hits and Nick Traystman had two hits for Ledyard (4-3, 2-1). Cade Walters pitched a complete game for the victory. NFA is 6-3, 3-1.

    H.S. girls' tennis

    • East Lyme beat NFA 6-1 in an ECC Large Division match on Monday. Julie Tan, Lisa Gao and Kelly Peterec won singles matches for East Lyme (3-2, 1-2), which also got wins from the doubles teams of Ariel Plantz-Tanvi Dandekar, Colleen Keller-Ashley Brown and Alexandra Arsenault-Neha Ande. Tayla Willson won at No. 4 singles for NFA (2-4, 0-4).
