Dunn soaking up the hectic pre-NBA Draft experience

New York — A dapper Kris Dunn sat at a table greeting fans, posing for pictures and signing autographs at the Lids store on 42nd Street near Times Square on Tuesday afternoon.

Hats from various professional teams rested on shelves all around him.

In just over a month, Dunn will be putting on a hat from his future NBA basketball team at the 2016 draft on June 23 in Brooklyn. The All-American point guard is expected to be a high lottery pick.

Dunn is in no hurry to find out his fate. He's soaking in every crazy busy day.

"I'm just enjoying the moment every day," Dunn said. "I don't want it to come too fast."

Right now, Dunn doesn't have much time to think about fulfilling his dream.

Just in the last week, Dunn went to the NBA Draft combine in Chicago and spent a short time at home in New London, where he proudly showed off his favorite spots, including New London High School, to an ESPN crew that was following him for a story that first aired on Tuesday. Then he graduated from Providence College on Sunday.

"I gave them a little taste of everything," said Dunn, the former Whaler star turned tour guide.

Dunn was on a tight and demanding schedule Tuesday.

After making an appearance at Lids, Dunn jumped in the back seat of a black SUV and headed off into rush hour traffic for his next appointment. Later that night, he attended the NBA Draft Lottery with his parents, John and Audra Seldon.

"I never dreamed of this coming so quickly," Dunn said. "It's just been fun. I've been enjoying it with my family and friends. Everything has been amazing so far."

His parents soaked in the scene at the autograph session. John appreciated that the Mohegan Sun, where he works, gave him time off so he could make the trip to New York. Audra snapped a picture of the long line of fans.

"It's crazy," Audra said of Kris' whirlwind journey. "Everything just goes so fast."

John was looking forward to finding out the results of the draft lottery. Dunn is considered a top five lottery pick.

Philadelphia is John's first choice. That's where he grew up and still has family. The 76ers ended up with the top pick.

More than anything, John wanted to talk about Kris graduating from Providence. Kris could have jumped to the NBA last year and likely been a first round pick, but elected to return to school to complete his education and set a good example for his two sisters.

Dunn made an effort to go to the ceremony because he missed his high school graduation after being invited to participate in the USA basketball training camp for his age group.

It was an emotional day for the entire family.

"I'm most happy that he got his degree," John said. "He did a great job."

The pre-draft craziness is far from over. Dunn will fly back to California Wednesday morning to continue training. He's been working out with other draft prospects.

He's meet several professional players, including Chris Paul.

Paul invited Dunn over to his house for dinner.

"Chris Paul is a great guy," Dunn said. "I appreciate him spending time with me. He didn't have to do that. It just shows what type of character that he has. He's just willing to help anybody who reaches out to him. I just appreciate everything that he's done for me so far."

In the next few weeks, Dunn will work out for various NBA teams.

His agent, Ty Sullivan of Creative Artists Agency, believes the Dunn will be a starter in his first year. Sullivan called Dunn a special player with a special family.

"Kris has embraced the process," Sullivan said. "We just want him to enjoy this. This is great for his parents and just great for the NBA and great for Connecticut and great for New London."
