Boating facilities opened at five new locations in state

Boat slips, moorings and other amenities for transient recreational boats are now available at five new locations, including sites on the Connecticut and Pawcatuck rivers, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced Wednesday.

The new facilities, funded with about $700,000 available through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service under Federal Boating Infrastructure grants, include:

The facilities are for vessels 26 feet and larger, and will help promote economic growth for marine businesses and communities, DEEP Commissioner Robert Klee said in a news release.

"We encourage boaters to make use of these services, and thank the marine facilities for helping to provide safe waypoints for boaters traveling on Long Island Sound and our rivers," Klee said.

"Projects that are funded and are selected for their access to land or water-based recreational, historical, cultural, natural or scenic opportunities, so boaters will find a wide variety of exciting destinations," he said.

DEEP has launched a new interactive map showing the locations of the new boating facilities. To view the map, visit www.ct.gov/deep/transientboaterfacilities.
