C&W superstar Sam Hunt plays Mohegan Sun Saturday

Can you imagine walking through a pleasant city park and chancing upon a picnic being celebrated by Alice Cooper, R Kelly, former University of Alabama Birmingham head football coach Watson Brown, and ethicist John Stuart Mill?

C&W superstar Sam Hunt can, and he might be the one human who would organize such an outing. A one-time philosophy major and the starting quarterback at UAB under Brown, Hunt counts Cooper and Kelly as among his musical influences along with more traditional country artists. (Re the picnic: Hunt probably knows Mill is dead so won't count on the philosopher to bring the potato salad.)

On Saturday in the Mohegan Sun Arena, Hunt headlines a show as part of the casino's 20th anniversary celebration. He's is an intriguing artist whose work, indeed, reflects his varied interests. He first experienced Nashville success as a songwriter for folks like Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Billy Currington, then started his own recording career in 2014 with an EP, "X2C," followed by a full-length disc called "Montavello." The hits — "Leave the Night On," "Cop Car" and "Make You Miss Me," for example — continue to roll out.

As with many younger country stars, Hunt's recordings infuse urban and hip hop production techniques, Southern rock guitar structures, plenty of spoken word verses/sung choruses, and narratives that emphasize Friday and Saturday night parties and subsequent bliss or heartbreak. Not so much logical positivism, but Hunt seems to be doing just fine.

Sam Hunt, 8 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; with Filmore; $79, $99; 1-888-664-3426.
