Groton school plan was ill conceived

Groton town leaders want you to approve a huge school building plan when we already have too many schools. They even say we can’t use substantial brick and stone schools we already have, such as Groton Heights, Fitch Middle and Mystic Oral School. They invoke ludicrous cost figures for repairs. They find it too hard to balance racial mix by rerouting buses.

Give the problem to eighth graders; the people hired to do it failed. They want to make lottery magnet schools your kids can’t get into. They say our state will send us free money while we well know who pays state income and sales taxes. They want to take away the open space we approved. They talk little about their real job of increasing test scores by great teaching and vigorously addressing poor parenting. Vote “no” to get them back on track and stop another ill-conceived tax increase.
