Hygienic shows explore collaboration, texture in art

Hygienic Art is hosting two exhibitions through March 18.

In “Collaborative Economy,” Jessica Gaddis and Allison Hornak explore what it means to create art. The artists had worked alone before but are now collaborating. The exhibition highlights pieces they did together, and, on each Saturday through March 18, Gaddis and Hornack will be jointly producing art in the Hygienic’s lower gallery.

In “Uneven Surface: Rough Illuminations,” four Connecticut artists — Deborah J. Aldo, Julia Pavone, Jennifer Davies and Amy Hannum — showcase works that use texture. The artists “capture light and portray movement through a dimensional surface, secondarily through pattern, color and texture,” according to the Hygienic.

    Hygienic Art at 79 Bank St., New London, is open 2-7 p.m. Tues.-Fri., 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sat., and noon-4 p.m. Sun.; (860) 443-8001.
