    H.S. roundup: Nott leads Waterford past Stonington in softball

    Stonington — Madison Nott doubled, tripled twice and drove in four runs, leading the Waterford High School softball team to a 13-7 win over Stonington on Wednesday in the annual Play 4 The Cure game honoring all those affected by cancer.

    Cassidy Susi had four hits for the Lancers (6-1, 4-0) in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II game, while Ciana Chiappone had two hits including an RBI triple.

    Winning pitcher Ashley Goldstein allowed one earned run in 5.1 innings of relief. Starter Marissa Walker, a cancer survivor, left with a 5-3 lead in the second inning.

    "A great game to be a part of," Waterford coach Andy Walker said. "The fans were great, a great environment."

    Trinity Lennon hit a two-run single for the Bears (5-2, 3-1), who capitalized on four errors in the fourth inning to take a brief 6-5 lead. Abby Flakus also hit an RBI single.

    In other games:

    • Amanda Perkins went 3-for-4, including a three-run home run, with five RBI and Alexis Michon pitched a five-hitter with nien strikeouts as Montville downed Bacon Academy, 8-3, in an ECC Division II game. Abby Diamantini went 3-for-4 for Montville (3-4, 2-2) and Angel Skulczyck added two hits.

    • Beth Fleming pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 15 and walking one, to power Norwich Free Academy past Ledyard, 13-0, in Division I. Hailee Schrader had two hits, an RBI and scored three runs while Sophia Dicocco had a single, double, triple and five RBI and Shea Gendron added two hits and two RBI for the Wildcats (9-0, 4-0). The Colonels fell to 3-6, 1-3.

    • Sophie Nelson had three hits for St. Bernard in a 19-2 loss to Griswold in Division III. Emily Nelson and Briana Beverly each had a triple for the Saints (4-2, 3-1). Shyla Krick had four hits for the Wolverines.

    • Fitch scored eight runs in the fifth inning to pull away from East Lyme in a 15-3 win in Division I. Taylor Wolfgang went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run and winning pitcher Jayden Delaporta had three hits and two RBI for the Falcons (5-3, 3-1), who took advantage of seven errors. Alexandra Chambers had two triples and an RBI and Angie Venditti had three singles and an RBI for the Vikings (4-3, 2-2).

    • Liz Richard had a single, double and two RBI in Old Lyme's 14-4 loss to Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Sadie Rubitski had two hits for the Wildcats (2-4).

    Baseball

    • Seamus Barry's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning rallied Montville to a 3-2 win over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II game. Nick Calash doubled and was the winning pitcher for Montville (5-1, 2-1) and Ken Heon got the save. Heon got out of a jam in the top of the seventh — runners on first and second with one out — by inducing two pop-ups to end the game. Bacon (3-3, 1-2) stranded 13 runners.

    • Vinny Gualtieri had a single and double, three RBI and scored as Norwich Free Academy beat Ledyard, 5-2, in an ECC Division I game. Cam Brodeur had two hits, including a double, with a run and an RBI for NFA (4-5. 2-2) and Bryan Caisse added two hits, a run and an RBI. Also, Jordan Lake pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out five. Ken Turner tripled and scored for the Colonels (5-4, 2-2) and Owen Wheeler and James Laconico both had a single and an RBI.

    • Griswold beat St. Bernard, 10-6, in an ECC Division III game. Connor Svab had a single and two runs for the Saints (3-4, 3-1) and Mason Knutson added two RBI.

    • Brett Camilleri and Matt Robida both doubled as Valley Regional gave Old Lyme its first loss of the season, 8-4, in a Shoreline Conference contest. Julian Muller had two hits, including a double, for Old Lyme (7-1).

    Boys' golf

    • NFA's Noah Straub shot a 1-under-par 35 for medalist honors as the Wildcats beat New London 7-0 in an ECC Division I match. Jack Wood shot a 42 for NFA (2-0, 1-0) and teammates Jack Sullivan, Miles Joyner and Sean Gilot all had 44s.

    • Montville improved to 5-0 with nonleague wins over Morgan (6-1) and Haddam-Killingworth (5-2). Chris Bouchard of Montville was the medalist and teammates Sam Gaboury and Noah Cook also won twice.  

    • Killingy won both matches with identical 7-0 scores against East Lyme and Plainfield to start the season 2-0 and extend its unbeaten streak to 73 straight matches. The Redmen's Connor Liebscher was the medalist with a 38. East Lyme (3-2), led by Evan Kluge's 43, beat Plainfield, 7-0.

    Girls' golf

    • Ivy Chen earned medalist honors with a 49, leading Norwich Free Academy past Bacon Academy, 227-273, in an ECC match at Norwich Golf Course.

    • Caroline Petchark fired a 47 to secure medalist honors in Waterford's 233-273 win over East Lyme in an ECC match at Great Neck Country Club. The Lancers are 2-0, 1-0.

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Lucian Kronholm scored two goals for Williams School in an 8-5 loss St. Andrew's School of Barrington, R.I. James Knowlton had a goal and two assists while Harry Anselmi and Kevin Masson also scored for the Blues.

    • Braydon Golas had five goals and an assist as NFA beat Fitch 12-8 in an ECC Division I game on Tuesday. Chris Ladyga had two goals and four assists, Jaedon Brown had two goals and an assist and Matt Kolashak had a goal and an assist for NFA. Noah Reuling had three goals and two assists and Bray Wilson and Riley Jordan each scored twice for Fitch.

    Boys' volleyball

    • Erdit Abedini had six aces and six kills as Bulkeley beat NFA 25-16, 25-19, 25-22. Ray Wang had eight kills, two digs and an ace for NFA (0-5) and Maloye Perkins added 10 assists. Also, Yeicon Baez had four blocks.

    Sailing

    • Williams School lost to the St. George's junior varsity in a best of five team race match. Skippering for the Blues: Sophie Bullinger, Alex Bowdler, and Colin Madaus. Matthew Littlefield, Tim Nessel, Caridad Muldro, Hannah Daitch, Jack McCallum, and Jordy Plisic served as crew.
