Culture Club to play Foxwoods Friday

After 406 years, all four original members of Britain's multi-platinum synth-pop band, Culture Club — including iconic Boy George — are touring together and appear Friday in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. Yes, they'll play all 50-million-sold-albums' worth of hits, and rumors of an upcoming album called "Tribes" means you might here some new material.

Now, because only The Day brings you this sort of exclusive material, here's a report from my friend Ernie Myers. On Culture Club's first American arena tour, Ernie's band, The Elements, opened the CC shows in Austin and Houston. I asked Ernie for a few memories of those events. He says:

"I only passed Boy backstage once and he smelled like boiled cabbage. He did have a nice hat, though."

"No women were allowed backstage. Seriously."

"(Elements road manager) Mark Daves got his (rear end) chewed out by the Culture Club road manager for letting us eat the backstage food spread before his crew and band could get to it."

"I got three separate speeding tickets driving from the Austin show to Houston. The last one was at 3 a.m. in La Grange and the trooper was fascinated that we'd just played with Boy George. I had to show him a backstage pass. Go figure. I guess he was a fan."

If this doesn't propel you immediately to the Culture Club show, well, I guess time is NOT a clock in your heart.
