Three by three with the Essex Winter Series
The Essex Winter Series ushers in spring with its final concert Sunday, welcoming back violinist Chee-Yun to the region for an afternoon program of trios in Deep River.
Chee-Yun was a staple of Musical Masterworks' early seasons, providing a star power that helped establish that Old Lyme chamber music series. Sunday, she will join Winter Series artistic director and pianist Mihae Lee and cellist Julie Albers for a program of three staples of the repertoire.
The concert at Valley Regional High School in Deep River will present Piano Trio No. 39 in G Major by Joseph Haydn, one of his final and finest trios, and Ravel's one-and-only piano trio. It concludes with popular Mendelssohn's Trio No. 2 in C Minor.
Any of these three pieces and three musicians would be worth the drive.
