Telecommuters would get relief in bill

Connecticut Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, both Democrats, have proposed a measure to prevent overtaxation of telecommuting workers.

The lawmakers said in a release Monday that "a patchwork of conflicting state rules burdens workers and discourages telecommuting."

Similar legislation establishing one tax standard was introduced in the House by U.S. Reps. Jim Himes, Rosa DeLauro, Elizabeth Esty and Chellie Pingree.

“It simply makes no sense that someone who works and lives in one state should have to pay taxes to another just because they telework,” Blumenthal said in a statement.

“Our outdated tax system punishes and overtaxes Connecticut workers who telework," Murphy's statement said.
