Windsor Locks — Bradley International Airport is launching its first trans-Atlantic flight in nearly a decade.

WTIC-TV reports that the inaugural Aer Lingus flight to Dublin, Ireland, takes off today from the Windsor Locks airport.

The direct flight will run seven days a week until Nov. 1. After that the flight is slated to run on a reduced schedule until the late spring, when it will return to running every day.

Aer Lingus says the flight includes "customs clearing" in Dublin, which means passengers will clear customs while still in Ireland and will essentially return to Connecticut as domestic fliers.

The flight is being marketed as a "gateway to Europe" with 28 connecting destinations from Dublin.

The last attempt at a trans-Atlantic flight by Bradley came in 2007.
