Sewing machine shop opens in Saybrook

Old Saybrook — Debbie and Peter Alvord are opening Shoreline Sewing Machine Co. at 27 N. Main St., returning to the sewing machine business after a four-year hiatus.

They previously had a shop at Midway Plaza shopping center in Niantic, and recently returned from working at a tennis academy in South Carolina.

A grand opening will be held 9-4 Saturday.

"This time around we will concentrate solely on sewing machine sales and service," the Alvords said in an email. "Our clientele will include tailors, dressmakers, alteration shops and home sewers."

The authorized Bernina and Elna dealer can help with household or industrial sewing machines. But it will not be carrying any fabric this time around.

Contact the Avords at (860) 388-1832, via email at shorelinesew@gmail.com, or visit their website.

Store hours are 9-6 Tues.-Thurs.; 9-4 Fri. and 9-2 Saturday.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
