Casinos' slot-machine winnings were up in September

Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun reported Friday that their slot-machine winnings were up last month.

Foxwoods “won,” or kept, $38.6 million in slots revenue in September, a 3.8 percent increase over the $37.2 million it kept the same month last year. Mohegan Sun’s September slots win of $49.3 million reflected a 3.3 percent increase over the $47.7 million it kept in September 2015.

Foxwoods’ “handle,” the total amount wagered at its slots, was up 3.3 percent to $477.2 million while Mohegan Sun’s climbed 2.9 percent to $595.2 million.

For Foxwoods, the year-over-year gain in September slots win ended a string of four straight months of declines. Mohegan Sun had posted a gain in July after declines in May and June. Both casinos were down in August.

The casinos sent more than $22 million of their winnings to the state. Mohegan contributed $12.3 million and Foxwoods $9.8 million.
