Mystic — The owner of the critically acclaimed Oyster Club and Engine Room, both in Mystic, is now planning to open a third restaurant and butcher shop at 24 East Main St.

Daniel Meiser, under the name Whole Beast LLC, is seeking a special use permit from the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission to expand the existing restaurant space to 52 seats with a permit to sell beer and wine. The building, which is across the street from the Mystic Post Office, has housed a Tim Horton’s donut shop, Wide World of Bagels and most recently Cafe 511.

The application states it would be a traditional butcher shop and restaurant with take-out service as well. It would operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The commission has scheduled a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Mystic Middle School.

Meiser could not be reached for comment Tuesday about the plan.
