    Dunn still contemplating his future

Providence — Kris Dunn never lets pressure-packed situations rattle him on the basketball court.

He’s also remained cool while contemplating a life-altering decision: whether to return to Providence College for his junior season or enter his name in the NBA Draft in June.

With Sunday’s NBA Draft early-entry eligibility deadline approaching, Dunn continues to stick to his own timetable. He’s not losing sleep over making his big decision.

“It’s a blessing, to be honest,” Dunn said after his workout Wednesday at PC's Alumni Hall. “It’s a good problem to have. I’m one step closer to my dream.

“Right now, I have to make a decision. … I’ll just sit down with my family and the coaching staff. I’ve got a great support system. I’m just focusing on basketball and school work. I’m not really thinking about that stuff.”

His announcement will come any day now. He’s projected to be a first-round draft pick. One mock draft has the Providence point guard being selected 13th.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, he had yet to nail down a meeting time with his family and coaches.

“We’re going to sit down very soon,” Dunn said. “We’re going to discuss a lot of things and see what’s best for me. As soon as we figure it out, that’s when I’m going to announce it.”

Over the last few weeks, Dunn has blocked out all the noise about his decision. He dismissed a Yahoo Sports report Wednesday that stated he will return to Providence next season.

“That’s his opinion,” Dunn said of respected NBA writer Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. “I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet, go to the draft or come back to school. I still have a couple more days to figure that out.”

Dunn, a co-Big East Player of the Year, is coming off his best season. He averaged 15.6 points, 7.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals while leading the Friars to the NCAA tournament.

He’s already working hard to prepare for next season. He'll continue to push aside any potential distractions.

“My teammates help me focus on getting better as a person and as a player," Dunn said. "... As a player, I’ve still got a lot of things to improve."
