Mitchell eliminated in NCAA tournament
Mansfield -- Mitchell College was eliminated from the NCAA Division III New England Regional baseball tournament today.
The Mariners suffered 3-2 loss in 12 innings to Salem State in a losers' bracket game at Eastern Baseball Stadium. Mike Davis drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Trailing 2-0, Fitch High School graduate Tristan Hurley tied the game with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Hurley and Garet Griffin each had two hits.
Reliever Pete Gonski of East Lyme earned the win for Salem State. He pitched a scoreless 2.2 innings.
The Mariners finished with a 28-11 overall record. They were making their third straight NCAA appearance and beat host Eastern Connecticut State University, 3-2, on Thursday to stay alive.
