The New London Recreation Department is hosting “Heroes for Scholarships,” 5K and 1K races on Friday, Aug. 7, beginning and ending at New London Sports Complex. Parking will be available at the New London High School.

The 1K race starts at 6 p.m., followed by the 5K at 6:30 p.m. Registration is $10 for children up to age 10 and $25 for adults. The first 50 children to register will receive a superhero cape.

All proceeds will benefit the New London Recreation Scholarship Fund, which helps New London children attend summer camp and other programs.

Following the race, a family movie will be shown in the high school auditorium.
