Benefit celebrates the life of drummer Wayne Manca

Post-Elvis or -Crimson, folks just don't go around handing out the nickname "King" to just anybody.

But ask people about the beloved Wayne "King" Manca, the Norwich drummer/husband/father/uncle who passed away last spring. Manca was indeed considered natural royalty in these parts — in the best context and for all the right reasons of friendship and fellowship.

Manca was a true Music Head who played with a variety of well-known local bands and artists including Five After Five. On Sunday, in the Montville Polish Club, a musical celebration and benefit will be held to help out The King's family. In addition to a Five After Five reunion, Melaena, Abbey Normal and BeBobaLouBob will perform. Plus, Joe Grieco, Mike Golemeski, Ronnie Lewis and Bernie Santore will play a very special tribute to Wayne.

The $20 cover includes five raffle tickets, draft beer, hot dogs, a nacho bar and other fun items. And feel free to bring a dish to share.

Wayne Manca Celebration, 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Montville Polish Club, 85 Maple Ave., Montville; $20; (860) 444-0715.
