I've sorta pulled for comedienne Iliza Shlesinger because she, too, is from Dallas. On the other hand, she went to the rich kids' elite Greenhill Academy and I'm a product of Oak Cliff — which is rather like comparing Olivier's "Henry V" to Big Wally's "Snuff Film Outtakes."

Still, Shlesinger has risen steadily through the standup ranks. Her debut special, "War Paint," released in 2012, had moments that were loudly-guffaw funny, and she encored last year with another standup special, "Freezing Hot." Her style is observational, with decided and acerbic takes on gender roles and "girl logic," and her alter ego inner-demon monologues can be extremely amusing.

Shlesinger does her routine Friday in the Convention Center and Uncas Ballroom at Mohegan Sun.
