Bank Square Books in Mystic and Savoy Bookshop and Café, which will be opening in Westerly in March, will host an author talk and book signing with Tamara Valentine, the author of “What the Waves Know.” The event will be held at the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly at 7 p.m. on Tuesday with a $5 suggested donation.

The book, Valentine’s debut novel, takes place in Rhode Island and follows the story of a young woman’s quest to find herself — and her voice — on the island where she lost both. Valentine is a professor of English at Johnson & Wales University in Providence and lives in Kingston, R.I., with her husband and three children.

The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery of Westerly is at 7 Canal St.
