River Jam Fest takes place Friday and Saturday at Mystic Shipyard

Basically, one's either a music festival person or one's not. Ultimately, it seems the major determining factor here has less to do with which artists are performing than the possibility of being trapped for hours or days with a sweaty throng — all of whom are using the same three Porta Potties.

Still, the allure of a warm weather, multi-band event is damned appealing. Consider Friday and Saturday's River Jam Fest, taking place in the very convenient Mystic Shipyard, which seems a good bet for any music fan regardless of underlying feelings about festivals. It's a beautiful setting, and styles range from jam and pop to rockabilly and Americana.

The music starts with Friday evening performances from Wooly Mammoth (5 p.m.) and Green Tea (7:15 p.m.), and continues starting at noon Saturday with tentative appearances, in order, from Tyler Seton, the Hoolios, Midnight Madness, Tad Overbaugh, Barley Hoppers and Sunday Gravy.

There's on-site parking. and beverages (including adult varieties) and food available for purchase.

River Jam Festival, 5 p.m. Fri. and 12:30 p.m. Sat., Mystic Shipyard, 100 Essex St., Mystic; $10 Fri. and $25 Sat.; facebook.com/mysticriverjam.
