Nik Wallenda brings high-wire act to Foxwoods

Heart pounding, suspenseful, death-defying — those are some of the words used to describe Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus performance. Zirkus is a riveting circus variety show coming to Foxwoods this week, starring an ensemble of circus performers and Nik Wallenda, a man famous for his daredevil and high-wire walking performances.

Wallenda, who is returning to Foxwoods after having debuted his Zirkus show there last year, holds 10 world records and is best-known for his wire walk across the Grand Canyon. Just two years ago at Foxwoods, Wallenda walked a tightrope 75-80 feet off the ground between the Rainmaker parking garage and Tanger Outlets.

Though his show won’t be performed over an 80-foot drop this time or a mile-deep canyon, crowds won’t be disappointed with what he has in store for the finale — a seven-person pyramid teetering on top of a high wire.

If you can stand to watch this, knowing that in the past the act hasn’t always gone right (in 1962, two members of Wallenda’s family died, and just this past February, five performers were injured after falling 25 feet), the show will deliver.

    Nik Wallenda’s Zirkus, 6:30 and 9 p.m. Thurs., 6 and 9:30 p.m. Fri., 4 and 8 p.m. Sat., 2 and 7 p.m. Sun., Foxwoods' Fox Theater, $15, $25; 1-800-200-2882.
