    HIGH SCHOOL THANKSGIVING FOOTBALL

    THURSDAY'S GAMES

NFA at New London, 10 a.m.

Records: NFA (6-2, 2-0 ECC Large); New London (7-2, 2-0)

Last week: Both teams were idle

Outlook: It's hard to imagine there's another game across Connecticut with as much significance. The winner of this game wins the ECC Large Division (New London would repeat) and earns a berth to the state playoffs. (The Whalers could qualify with a loss as well, but would need bonus-point help). ... Can the Whalers stop Khaleed Exum-Strong? He is a running back at NFA and one of the most prolific offensive players in the league. Can NFA stop quarterback Danny Maranda and a very good pass offense? ... Garrett Burdick's late field goal gave New London a 9-7 win last season.

East Lyme at Waterford, 10 a.m.

Records: East Lyme (4-6); Waterford (4-6)

Last week: East Lyme defeated Jonathan Law 21-14; Waterford was idle

Outlook: This could be the most competiitve game of the day in the region. Waterford has won three straight and could finish the season on a four-game win streak. The Lancers have explosive offensive players Chase Speller, Isaiah Jones and Jake Mangual, who have been very good of late. East Lyme has won two of its last three and has a run offense that will challenge Waterford's inconsistent defense.

    Stonington at Westerly, 10 a.m.

    Records: Stonington (5-5); Westerly (3-8)

Last week: Both teams were idle

Outlook: A victory gives the Bears a winning season. Stonington hasn't played since a 47-13 loss to playoff-bound Windham two weeks ago. Westerly defeated Warwick veterans 40-20 Nov. 15. ... This is the nation's oldest Thanksgiving Day game rivalry.

    Ledyard at Fitch, 11 a.m.

    Records: Ledyard (10-0); Fitch (0-10)

Last week: Ledyard was idle; Fitch lost to Montville 40-14

Outlook: With a win on Thanksgiving, Ledyard would finish the regular season at 11-0 fir the first time in school history (1984 and 1993 teams finished 10-0). ... Ledyard has already clinched a home game in the Class M state semifinals Dec. 6 so the Colonels, in addition to securing that 11th win, want to walk away healthy for the playoffs. ... Kickoff has been pushed up to 11 a.m.
