High school boys' basketball: Calash scores 18 as Montville beats Wheeler, 73-56
Montville — Cody Calash scored a team-high 18 points and the Montville High School boys' basketball team placed five players in double figures to defeat Wheeler 73-56 Tuesday.
Buddy Dewaine added 17 points for the Indians (3-5) while Pat Podeszwa had 13 and TT Bowens and Chance Collier had 10 apiece.
Jacob Raggon scored a game-high 27 points for Wheeler (3-3) while Mike Dellaporta finished with 16.
In other games:
• New London raced out to a 26-point halftime lead on the way to a 72-40 victory over Griswold. Collin Sawyer scored 19 to led the Whalers (8-0), the No. 6-ranked team in the state. Bryan Cespedes added 16 points and 12 rebounds and Seth Lake had 11 points for New London.
• DeAnte Bruton had 22 points and eight assists to power Ledyard past Bacon Academy 92-39 in the ECC Large. Mario Graham chipped in 17 points and five steals and Leo Clinton added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Colonels (7-1, 4-0).
• Brody Labbe scored 15 as Windham downed Stonington 63-47. Amadi White had nine points and 16 rebounds for the Bears (2-7) and Matt Donohue scored 16.
• Plainfield raced to a 27-7 lead over Norwich Tech after one quarter and cruised to a 77-49 win. Osias Mack scored 17 points for Norwich Tech (1-6) while Jared Neal added eight points and five assists.
