    ECC girls' basketball tournament: Lancers win behind Kobyluck

    Waterford High School senior Sarah Pacheco grabs a rebound in Friday night's ECC tournament girls' basketball game at Waterford. No. 4 Waterford defeated No. 13 Wheeler 56-41.

    Waterford - Vanessa Kobyluck scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the first half Friday night as No. 4 Waterford High School beat No. 13 Wheeler 56-41 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' basketball tournament playdown round game.

    Waterford will play No. 5 Plainfield in Monday's quarterfinals at Plainfield (7 p.m.). Prior to that game, No. 3 Bacon Academy will face No. 6 Stonington at 5 p.m.

    In other quarterfinals Monday, No. 2 New London meets No. 7 Ledyard at 5 p.m. at Norwich Free Academy, followed by No. 1 NFA vs. No. 8 Tourtellotte at 7.

    Shea Spellman had 11 points and Kazi Walker nine points for Waterford (15-6).

    Kylie Baker scored 12 and had nine rebounds for Wheeler (8-13).

    In other games:

    • Taty LaFrance Boyce had 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals as Stonington defeated No. 11 Fitch 48-39 to avenge a loss to the Falcons earlier in the week. Cameron Dreher added 12 points and eight rebounds for Stonington (14-7). Summer Mills finished with 13 points and Brianna Robinson 12 for Fitch (8-13).

    • Michelle Klinikowski had 28 points to pace Ledyard past No. 10 Windham 53-23. Sarah Serbacewicz added 12 points for the Colonels (12-9).

    • Deanna Lazzarra scored 11 as Tourtellotte edged No. 9 St. Bernard 36-34. Caitlyn Dittman had 18 points for St. Bernard (10-11).
