    High school roundup: McDonald provides Montville baseball with some relief in win over Killingly

    Montville — Tom McDonald pitched the final five innings, retiring 14 of out 15 batters he faced to lift the No. 4 Montville High School baseball team past Killingly 5-2 Tuesday in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division.

    Killingly, coming into the game on a three-game winning streak, scored two runs in the first inning on a bases-loaded double by Ben Desaulnier. The Redmen, however, failed to score again in the inning despite having runners on second and third with no outs.

    Montville scored one run in the first inning and tacked on three in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Quentin Duperry had an RBI single, Eric Ross an RBI double and Jeremy Sagun a run-scoring single for the Indians (10-2, 5-0). Sagun and Duperry had two hits each and TT Bowens and McDonalded added RBI.

    Killingly is 7-5, 1-4.

    In other games:

    • Juan Otanez singled home pinch runner Da'Jon Uzzle from second with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give New London a 1-0 victory over Plainfield in the ECC Medium Division. Otanez's hit made a winner out of Whalers' pitcher Josh Vincent, who scattered five hits while walking two and striking out 10. New London is 6-6, 3-2.

    • Brent Conderino was 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored for No. 7 Waterford in a 16-1 victory over Stonington in the ECC Medium Division. Connor Lewis was also 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI for Waterford (11-1, 5-1) and Kevin Johnson, Justin Keating, Griffen Archambault and Mike Burrows added doubles. Justin Pandolfe was the winning pitcher. Stonington is 6-6, 1-4.

    • Andy Grant pitched a three-hitter as Norwich Free Academy blanked East Lyme 4-0 in the ECC Large Division. Grant (4-0) did not walk a batter and had four strikeouts for the Wildcats (11-1, 5-0) and Tannor Fontaine had two hits and drove in a run. Sam Gonski had two hits for East Lyme (7-4, 3-2) and C.J. Leindecker pitched a complete game in defeat.

    • St. Bernard’s Cam Winiarz singled to center to drive in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Saints edged Wheeler 7-6 in the ECC Small Division. Winiarz also pitched four innings in relief for the victory, allowing just two hits, striking out five and walking two. Aaron Michaud had three hits and two stolen bases for St. Bernard (5-7, 4-1), which scored four runs in the third. Kevin Knowles had four hits, including a double, and scored two runs for Wheeler (1-10, 1-4).

    • Justin Marceau and Cooper Robinson each hit a two-run home run to lift Fitch over Bacon Academy 5-3 in the ECC Large Division. Ryan Glass had two hits, a run and an RBI for Fitch (7-5, 3-2) and Cam Albin pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits with four strikeouts. He also pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning and stranded runners at first and second base to end the game. Zach Lawrence had an RBI single and scored for Bacon (6-5, 2-3).

    • Chris Rivera got the win in relief and also went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI to lead Grasso Tech over Parish Hill 12-8 in a CSC East game on Monday. Antonio Lopez also homered for Grasso (3-5, 2-4).

    • Stephen Millhaven's fourth-inning single drove in the only run for St. Thomas More in a 13-1 loss to Chase Collegiate. Christian Vital had a single and double for St. Thomas More (0-7).
