    High school roundup: Waterford doubles up on East Lyme for boys' tennis win

    East Lyme — Waterford swept the doubles matches to edge previously undefeated East Lyme 4-3 Tuesday in a high school boys' tennis match.

    Waterford's Matthew Hausmann and Samson Herbert won at No. 1 doubles, Evan Burdsall and Mike Castelpoggi at No. 2 and Dylan Vitale and Mike Gianakos at No. 3. They were joined in the win column by No. 2 singles player Camiren Carter, who topped Nipun Hewage 7-6, 1-6, 6-2.

    Suryansh Patel, Nick Hotary and Eric Wu won singles matches for East Lyme (6-1). Waterford is 9-1.

    In other matches:

    • Unbeaten Old Lyme swept the two doubles matches to pull out a 5-2 victory over Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Austin Pilgrim-Jason Feng won at No. 1 doubles 6-4, 7-5 for the Wildcats (11-0) and Alex Clippinger-Adam Czarnecki won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Brendan White, Ethan Fenton and Eric Pan added straight set singles wins for Old Lyme.

    • Singles players Alex Zuczek, Eric Ostaszewski, Patrick Mahoney and David Graham were all 6-0, 6-0 winners in St. Bernard's 7-0 victory over Windham in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division on Monday. St. Bernard is 4-2, 3-1.

    Girls' tennis

    • Olivia Kenyon, Hannah Holloway, Lauren Veile and Lauren Fiasconaro each won in singles and doubles as Norwich Tech blanked Bullard-Havens Tech 7-0. Kenyon and Holloway won at No. 1 doubles, topping Suedenny Beckford and Selena Flores 8-1 and Veile and Foasconaro defeated Ariana Nieves and Elizabeth Salazar 8-3 at No. 2. Norwich Tech is 8-1.

    • Old Lyme picked up wins from No. 1 singles player Meredith Aird and the No. 1 doubles team of Hannah O'Brien-Keelin Hurtt in a 5-2 loss to Valley Regional in the Shoreline Conference. Aird rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Abby Wolff while O'Brien-Hurtt won 6-1, 6-2.

    • Lauren Rahr, Katie Lewis, Jessica Hudson and Francisca Secor won at singles in Waterford’s 6-1 victory over East Lyme. The teams of Alaina Moger-Sophie Wang and Sophie Impelleteri-Sarah Verity won doubles matches for Waterford (7-2). Ariel Plantz and Elisa Crane won their doubles match for East Lyme (3-3).

    Golf

    • Killingly topped Stonington 5-2 in an ECC Medium Division match between the two previously unbeaten teams at Elmridge Golf Course. Stonington’s Jack Ognisty and Jack Glenn each shot a 3-over-par 38 to win their matches, tying for medalist honors with Killingly’s Connor Fillmore. Stonington is 8-1 overall, 3-1 in the Medium Division; Killingly is 9-0, 3-0.

    • Wheeler topped Windham (7-0) in the ECC Small Division and lost to East Lyme (6.5-.5) in a match at Stonington Country Club. East Lyme’s Ryan Tobin was the overall medalist with a 3-over-par 39 and Christian Brown added a 45 for the Vikings (6-3-1). Mike Anderson shot a 47 to lead Wheeler (4-5, 2-4).

    • Medalist Matt Shea shot a 44 as Waterford downed New London 6-1 in the ECC Medium. Brett Collins shot a 46 and Stephen Lavoie a 47 for Waterford (6-3, 3-2). Dan Maranda shot a 51 for the Whalers (2-3, 1-2).

    • Goodwin Tech edged Norwich Tech 207-211 in a Constitution State Conference match at Norwich Golf Course. Josh Gilot led the way with a 47 for Norwich Tech (3-4, 2-3). Goodwin’s Dan Woolley was the medalist with a 42.

    Softball

    • Winning pitcher Jenn Paride had a double and three RBI, leading Wheeler past St. Bernard 9-2 in the ECC Small Division. Raven Houck and Emma Stock added two singles apiece for the Lions (9-2, 4-0). Sophie Nelson had a triple and two RBI for the St. Bernard (5-6, 2-3).

    • Norwich Tech scored eight runs in the fourth inning to rally past University/Classical 16-9. Abbey Pater went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Warriors.

    • Tabitha Ford had four hits, including three doubles, and five RBI in Grasso Tech’s 20-5 victory over Public Safety in a game shorted to five innings due to the mercy rule. Winning pitcher Ashley Cambasaca added three singles and two RBI and Amber Maher had a double and two RBI for Grasso (4-4).
