High school roundup: East Lyme tops Hand in girls' soccer
East Lyme — Three different players scored goals as East Lyme High School beat Hand 3-0 in a girls' soccer game Wednesday night.
Haley Ashton and Isabelle Moore scored in the first half and Theresa Durkee scored off a penalty kick in the second half. Hayley Sorrentino made five saves and Stephanie deLaforcade had an assist for the Vikings (2-0).
Hand is 1-1.
In other games:
• Mary Bolles scored twice as Old Lyme beat Old Saybrook 4-0 in the Shoreline Conference. Tori Sims made six saves, Maddie Zrenda and Keelin Hurtt scored goals and Jenna Peduzzi, Emily Rivera and Kyra Teixeira had assists for Old Lyme (1-0-1, 1-0).
Boys' soccer
• Old Lyme and Old Saybrook battled to 0-0 tie in Shoreline Conference action. Goalie Cam Dean-Frazier made eight saves for Old Lyme (0-0-2, 0-0-1), who opened the season with scoreless tie with Bacon Academy. His sparkling save off a free kick at the 65-minute mark kept the game scoreless.
Cross country
• Williams School competed in the Chase Collegiate Cross Country Invitational against five other programs. The Blues won the girls' competition with 34 points, as Mary Madaus (24:24) took third, Grace Cassineri (24:57) fifth and Hattie Grant (25:18) sixth.
Will Jarrett led the Williams boys with a third-place finish in 19:24.
Volleyball
• Sophia Romeo had eight kills and two blocks as Old Lyme beat Norwich Tech 3-0. Marissa Smith had 21 assists for Old Lyme (1-1), which won 25-14, 26-24, 25-22. Anna Hammar had seven kills and two blocks, Kat Howlett had eight digs and Chloe Guzman had seven assists and two kills for Norwich Tech (1-2).
• Hailey Edwards had 10 digs and Brooke LaVallie added four aces in Montville's 3-0 loss to Lyman Memorial. Game scores were 25-20, 25-13 and 25-14. The Indians fell to 0-3.
• Jenna Boyd had 19 kills, five blocks and six assists in Ledyard's 3-2 loss to Plainfield. Game scores were 25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 10-25, 15-6. Julianna Duben chipped in seven kills and five aces for Ledyard (0-3).
