    H.S. cross country: Morehouse leads Bears past Indians

    Montville — Stonington placed three runners in the top four and went on to beat Montville 21-38 in a key Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' cross country meet on Tuesday.

    Caroline Morehouse of Stonington (10-0, 5-0) won the race in 18:03 and teammates Maia Smith (third, 19:07) and Serena Monteiro (fourth, 19:52) followed. Stonington beat East Lyme 17-46 and Montville beat East Lyme 24-33. Mady Whittaker of Montville (6-3, 4-1) was second (18:36) and teammate Suzie Fitzgerald (19:57) was fifth. Lillian Whittaker of East Lyme (0-8) was sixth.

    In other meets:

    • Waterford picked up a pair of 15-50 victories, beating Killingly and Plainfield in ECC Medium Division meets. Brook Brouillard of Plainfield won the meet in 20:24 and Waterford's Jeannette Mooney was second at 20:52. Kay Wilson of Waterford (4-6, 2-3) finished fifth.

    • Fitch beat Bacon Academy in an ECC Large Division meet, 27-28. Habeeba Kamel was second for Fitch (8-2, 3-2), which also beat Tourtellotte 15-50. Nell Chidley of Fitch was third and teammate Alicia Moroyoqui was fourth.

    • Hannah Kaplan finished first (21:16) for Lyman Memorial as it beat New London, 15-50. Shineika Fareus was runner-up for New London (2-5) and Emma Hurley was sixth (25:34). Also, Aliana Davenport placed 10th (29:35).

    Boys

    • Vann Moffett led East Lyme to a pair of nonleague wins, beating Montville 15-48 and Stonington 19-43. Stonington beat Montville 22-39 in an ECC Medium Division meet. Moffett won the race in 15:11 and Ryan McCauley (third) and Samuel Whittaker (fourth) also cracked the top five for East Lyme (7-2). Kieran Thornell of Stonington (5-6, 4-1) was second.

    • Tom Readett was runner-up (18:23) to help Fitch beat Bacon Academy (25-34) and Tourtellotte (15-50). Dan Gaiewski was fourth (18:42) and Ian Poe fifth (18:55) for Fitch (3-5, 1-4 ECC Large). Bacon's Mike Rumbel won the race (17:55).

    • Waterford picked up a pair of ECC Medium Division wins, beating Killingly 28-31 and Plainfield 17-42. Dylan Abate was third and Nicholas Carson was fourth for Waterford (7-3, 5-0).

    • Lyman Memorial's Josh Cardinal won individual honors (18:31) as the Bulldogs beat New London (15-50) and Wheeler (15-50). Andrew Souza placed seventh (20:20) and Nate Skrabacz ninth (21:04) for New London (3-6), which beat Wheeler (26-31). Anton Smith finished sixth (22:00) for the Lions (2-10, 1-5 ECC Small).

    • Parish Hill claimed three of the top four spots and beat Grasso Tech 25-32 in a Constitution State Conference meet. Corey Harrington of Parish Hill won the race in 19:07. Sam Gauthier was third for Grasso Tech and teammate Robert McClardy finished fifth.
