Bacon, Killingly and Ledyard all receive votes in Day coaches' poll

Bacon Academy, Killingly and Ledyard aren’t ranked among the top teams in The Day’s Top 10 state coaches’ poll this week, although each received votes.

The Eastern Connecticut Conference trio are a good example of the conundrums voters often have to untangle.

Killingly lost the lead with 10 seconds to go and lost to Griswold in Week 1, 27-22.

Bacon knocked off Ledyard in Week 3, 25-22.

Killingly mashed Bacon two weeks later, 40-7.

Bacon, Killingly and Ledyard are all 7-1. So how does a voter make up its mind when choosing to vote for one of those three?

Bacon received two votes for 19 points to be the highest ranked of the group. Ledyard (16 points) was also on two ballots. Killingly received one 15th-place vote for seven points.

Killingly, Bacon and Ledyard, in that order, are the top-rated teams in the Class M state playoff ratings.

Southington (8-0) received 11 of 13 first-place votes to maintain its season-long hold on No. 1. Second-ranked Darien (7-0) got the other two first-place votes.
