    H.S. roundup: Moffett helps East Lyme boys place second in Class M indoor meet

    New Haven — Vann Moffett won the 1,600-meter race in 4:27.48 to help East Lyme High School place second in Saturday's CIAC Class M boys' indoor track and field championship meet at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

    Hillhouse won the meet with 90 points and the Vikings scored 52.5. Stonington placed 11th (12), and Ledyard 17th (7).

    Josh Leffingwell was second in the pole vault (13 feet) and third in the 55 hurdles (8.27), Ben Wojcik placed third in the pole vault (11-6), Patrick Dowd finished fifth in the long jump (20-5.25), Dylan Hatajik took fifth in the 55 dash (6.81) and Brett Bragaw was sixth in the shot put (43-6.5) for East Lyme.

    The Vikings' Jay Mirecki, Ryan McCauley, Samuel Whittaker and Colvert Moore and were third in the 4x800 (8:30.41) while Hatajik, Tyler Valdez, Evan Tryon and Mirecki finished third in the 1,600 sprint medley relay (3:47.98) and Tryon, McCauley, Hatajik and Dowd placed fourth in the 4x400 (3:42.43).

    Cameron Whalen was fourth in the 55 hurdles (8.30) for Stonington and Dmitri Van Duine (44-5.5) and Seamus Wallace were third and fifth, respectively, in the shot put.

    Ledyard's Manny Deshields-Sanabria placed third in the long jump (20-8) and he joined  Herman Winston, James Smith and Luke Saccone to place sixth in the 4x200 relay (1:36.11).

    In the girls' meet, Ledyard's Megan Brawner was third in the 1,000 (3:06.01) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:25.16). Tolland ran away with the team title (101) and Ledyard was 16th (8).

    Mady Whittaker was fifth in the 600 (1:43.31), Christianna Johnson placed sixth in the shot put (32-1.75), and Abigail Baukus, Michaela MacCracken, Katelin Price and Whittaker finished fourth in the 4x400 relay (4:23.48) for Montville.

    Stonington's Lindsey Orr finished sixth in the 3,200 (12.15.34), Jessica Detwiler, Anna Foster, Margit Burgess and Abbigail Blanchard were fifth in the 4x200 (1:53.91), and Margit Burgess, Detwiler, Foster, Blanchard took sixth in the 4x400 (4:25.11).

    New London's sprint medley relay team of Olivia Santana, Vekema Aguirre, Mia Santana, and Shineika Fareus finished sixth (4:39.63).

    In other meets:

    • Alexis Burgess was second in the long jump (16-8.25) and Mikaela Lopriore was runner-up in the shot put (35-0.5) as East Lyme tied New Milford for fifth at the Class L meet. Windsor overwhelmed the field with 104 points. East Lyme had 35 points and Fitch was 10th (15).

    Saige Deveau, Hannah Gellar, Haley Ashton and Kirsten Thompson finished third in the 1,600 sprint medley relay (4:34.10) for East Lyme and Isabelle Riker was fourth in the high jump (5-0). The Vikings' other placewinners were Sara Shukis (pole vault, fourth place, 8-0), Ashton (55 hurdles, fifth, 9.25), Anneliese Lapides (sixth, pole vault, 7-6), Thompson (sixth, 1,000, 3:15.96) and the 4x400 relay team of Claire Mason, Hannah Gellar, Cassidy Abdeen and Ashton (sixth, 4:18.84).

    Sydnee Spruill tied for second in the high jump (5-2) and was fifth in the long jump (15-11.25) for Fitch and Madison Powe was fourth in the 55 meters (7.54). Janaya Burley. Kitty Potter, Powe and Alicia Moroyoqui placed sixth in the sprint medley relay (4:38.01).

    The Fitch boys tied for 10th place with 15 points. Brian Robinson was runner-up in the shot put (46-4.25) and Everett Guess sixth (42-10.75), and Matt Kerst, Tom Readett, Owen Stanfield and Daelon Morgan were third in the 4x800 (8:26.86). Wethersfield beat Windsor for the team title, 71-56.

    Girls' basketball

    • Brianna Robinson had 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals as Fitch beat Stonington 44-38 to qualify for the Class L tournament. Mackenzie Aldridge had 13 points and four steals for Fitch (8-10) and Taylor Wolfgang had 13 points and two steals. Kate Hall scored 14 for the Bears (12-6).

    • Abby Murdock scored 10 points as Westerly beat East Lyme 52-47. Sydney Iannatuono had eight points and 10 rebounds, Karlie Rowe scored 13 and Maggie Powers had 10 rebounds for East Lyme (7-11).

    • Norwich Free Academy finished its busy week with a 58-50 win over Ridgefield, the defending Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic champion. The Wildcats (15-3) won four games in five days, including victories over Class LL runner-up South Windsor (63-57) and ECC Large rival Bacon Academy (57-39).

    • Vanessa Kobyluck had 18 points and nine rebounds as Waterford beat Plainfield on Friday night 46-36 in the ECC Medium. Mia Brennan scored 14 for Waterford (15-4).

    H.S. fencing

    • Amanda Cilley scored a 30 to lead NFA past New London, 16-2, in the girls' foil. Waterford's Sabrina Rutchick scored a 30 in the girls' epee as the Wildcats beat NFA and New London, 11-7. Waterford's Jason Huang scored a perfect 50 in the boys' foil as the Lancers beat NFA, 12-6. Nicholas Tatro went 3-0 in the epee as NFA downed Waterford, 7-2.

    • Noah Hysong, Blake Brochu, Sam Lahti led Ledyard past Griswold (9-0) and St. Bernard (9-0) to win the ECC boys' foil title. The Colonels also beat St. Bernard (5-4) and Griswold (6-3) in the epee. St. Bernard beat Griswold in the foil, and the Wolverines beat the former in the epee (5-4). Rebekah Bulter paced Ledyard to wins over Griswold (7-2) and St. Bernard (8-1) in the foil. Megan McKern helped Ledyard beat Griswold (9-0) and St. Bernard (8-1) in the epee. St. Bernard beat Griswold in both the foil (9-0) and epee (6-3).

    Boys' swimming

    • Notre Dame of West Haven beat Fitch on Friday 107-76. Sam Rea won the 50 freestyle (23.63), Sam Kokomoor the 100 butterfly (55.84) and Aaron Lewis the 500 freestyle (5:12.41) for Fitch (8-1). Also, John Moody, Pat Nowak, Kokomoor, and Rea won both the 200 medley relay (1:45.94) and the 200 freestyle (1:35.06).
