    H.S. track roundup: NFA boys stay in the win column

    Ledyard — Jawaun Johnson and Tyler Sholes won two individual events each as unbeaten Norwich Free Academy topped Ledyard 77-54 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division boys' track meet Wednesday.

    Johnson won the 100 meters (11.0) and 200 (22.8) and Sholes won the 800 (2:07.1) and 1,600 (4:54.1). Brenden Sholes, Noah Cyr, Connor Gralton, J'Von Brown and Chris Hebert also won events for NFA (3-0, 3-0).

    Collin Wiltshire won the 110 hurdles (17.8) and triple jump (40-4) for Ledyard (3-2, 1-2) and teammates Manny Deshields-Sanabria and Mike Leandri also won events.

    In other meets:

    • Andrew Sousa won the 800 meters in 2:15.1 in New London's 125-19 loss to Killingly in the ECC Medium Division. New London is 0-3, 0-3.

    • Dmitri Van Duine swept the throwing events, winning the javelin (121-6), discus (103-4) and shot put (39-10), in Stonington's 98-43 win over Waterford in the ECC Medium. Kyle Whalen won the 100 (11.6) and 200 (23.8) while Kieran Thornell took first in the 1,600 (4:54) and 3,200 (10:47) for the Bears (4-1, 3-0). Stonington's Lincoln Robinson won the long jump (19-0) and 300 hurdles (42.3). Connor Chung finished first in the 400 (55.4) while John Rath won the triple jump (19-0) and Devin Craig captured the high jump (5-10) for Waterford (2-1, 2-1).

    • Josh Leffingwell won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and pole vault in East Lyme's 115-31 win over Woodstock Academy in the ECC Large. Larenz Simpkins took first in the shot put and discus, while Kent Place won the javelin, Kosta Lanis won the high jump and Cully Moore took first in the 800 for East Lyme (4-1, 2-1).

    Girls

    • Ally Lewis and Jada Goodwin won two events each as NFA remained unbeaten with a 120-30 win over Ledyard in an ECC Large Division meet. Lewis won the 400 (66.4) and the high jump (5-0) and Goodwin won the shot put (28-1.5) and discus (74-11). Jen Grabill, Margaret Lewerk, Sydney Corl, Stephanie Jarvis and Sara Burns each won an event and were on winning relay teams for NFA (3-0, 3-0) and teammates Joyce Yuen and Debbie Guerrier also won events. Megan Brawner won the 800 (2:26) and was on the winning 4x400 relay team for Ledyard (1-4, 0-3) and teammates Lauryn Lu, Claudia Jackson and Delaney Gagnon also won events.

    • Cyndell Pickett earned New London's only first-place finish, winning the triple jump in 27-8, in a 122-20 loss to Killingly in the ECC Medium. New London is 0-3, 0-3.

    • Kate Hall took first in the 200 (27.0) and 100 (13.2) as well as running a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team to pace Stonington past Waterford 104-37 in the ECC Medium. Taty LaFrance Boyce placed first in the javelin (106-1) and shot put (28-7.5) and Marissa Yambao won the discus (89-2) while Liz Gray won the 800 (2:44) and Jessica Detwiler won the 400 (63.7) for the Bears (4-1, 3-0). Jeannette Mooney won the 3,200 (12:49) while Carisa Akins took first in the triple jump (30-3) and Sophia Podeski won the 300 hurdles (52.0) for Waterford (2-1, 2-1).

    • Haley Ashton captured the 100 hurdles (16.2), 200 (28.0) and high jump (4-10 to lead East Lyme past Woodstock 96-54 in the ECC Large. Isabelle Riker won the 300 hurdles (51.5) and long jump (16-4.5) while Cassidy Abdeen took first in the 400 (64.5), Serena Valentin won the 800 (2:47.7) and Kristen Foster won the shot put (31-5) for the Vikings (5-0, 3-0).

    • St. Bernard was swept in an ECC Small Division tri-meet on Tuesday, losing to Griswold 108-30 and host Lyman 112-30. Ellen Arvidson won the 800 (2:53) and 1,600 (5:57) and Christina McCaffery won the 400 (1:03.68) against Griswold and Emma Givens won the 100 (13.57) against Lyman for the Saints (1-5, 1-3).
