    Same-sex marriages don't produce kids

The Day's editorial, "Marriage equality," (Nov. 12), advocates for same-sex couples being allowed to marry. There is a very simple reason why men and women can marry and same-sex people cannot. Married men and women produce children. Same-sex people do not. Children must be born, nurtured, fed at 3 a.m., washed, changed, watched constantly, taught, disciplined, educated, supervised 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and put up with for a minimum of 18 years.

Then they either make their parents proud or miserable.

As parents of six, my wife and I have experienced both. That is why married men and women enjoy the fringe benefits of being married. By raising children, married men and women make an invaluable contribution to society which same-sex couples cannot. Check the editorial quotes of CNBC's Larry Kudlow's that marital relationships give people a reason to work and make a home, "and children for whom two parents feel responsible."

Two adults can live with anyone they choose, they can get all the legal benefits they want, they can call their relationship whatever they like, but it is not marriage. The Day's editorial approving same-sex marriage typifies the modern day philosophy of all that matters is what I can get for me, myself and I.
